Bela S Roongta

Bela Suresh Roongta is a practicing attorney, visual artist and writer. She graduated with her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Iowa College of Law before moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she began her law career as a domestic violence advocate for The Task Force on Family Violence (now Sojourner Family Peace Center). She then went on to become an associate attorney at a boutique law firm specializing in civil and criminal tax litigation. After six years, Bela left private practice and joined The Task Force on Family Violence as the Director of Courthouse Advocacy. As a recipient of the Governor’s Special Recognition Trailblazer Award for Women in Business, Bela has been recognized for success in art and storytelling, business innovation and a commitment to the community. Her combined experience of providing direct advocacy in both private and public practice,facilitating trainings, managing, problem solving, collaborating and working in partnership with multiple organizations and entities to improve the legal and justice system for victims, is what makes Bela the attorney, artist and storyteller she is today.

In addition to her private practice, Bela is a volunteer lawyer, published author, featured speaker & poet and social activist. She creates art, writes stories and facilitates workshops and events that advocate for and celebrate art & culture, human rights and wellness. Bela’s art and writing has been exhibited in solo and group shows throughout North America and Canada.
